Brief History:   Edmund Anthony Euler was born and raised in the cold, harsh northern desert of Thalland.  For 80,000 years, the Iquallathans have called the north of Thalland home.  Living in the northern expanse was harsh for the Iquallathans, but they adapted, eating fish and seals and creating shelter with the ice all around them.  Edmund’s father was an Iquallathan named Aipaloovik, who worked in a remote research station in the northernmost town in Thalland, Iqthallanik.  Iqthallanik, like many of the Iquallathan towns were plagued with unemployment.  Depression among the Iquallathans was rampant and many of them resorted to alcoholism, drug abuse and even suicide to escape their troubles.  Aipaloovik managed to overcome is own inner demons and get on with his life at the research station.

News of the demon war was sparse throughout its course in the northern territories.  The advantage of living in the northlands was that the demons dared not go there, as they were not accustomed to the cold climate.  The Iquallathans and Thallanders living in the northlands were unharmed by the demons.  Aipaloovik felt no different with the coming and going of the demon war.  He felt his life was uneventful, a simple research scientist in the north of Thalland.

A few years after the end of the demon war, the Thalland government sent another researcher to Iqthallanik.  Her name was Rebecca Kwinnatha, one of the few Keethawans to survive the demon rampages of the west coast of Thalland.  At first Aipalook didn’t know what to think of her… she was so different from him.  But the two grew close and eventually they married in the Iquallathan tradition.  They named their child after Kwinnatha’s father, who was killed in the war, to honour his memory.  Edmund Anthony Euler enjoyed life in Iqthallanik.  He had an air of cleverness about him.  He was always aware of his surroundings and caring of others, especially animals.

As fate would have it, Edmund would find something that would change his life forever.  While he was ice fishing to get the family’s dinner, he found a large metal case floating in the frigid water.  He carefully pulled it out and examined it.  It was a padlocked case, horribly rusted.  The lock broke apart in his hands and he lifted the lid.  Inside he found two broadswords, with odd symbols adorning the blades.  Edmund knew he had to keep his parents from knowing of the swords, so he wrapped them in skins and threw the case back into the water.  He snuck the swords into his room and hid them under the floorboards.

Edmund was elated with his discovery.  He was a self-disciplined individual and he practiced every day for a matter of hours to be able to wield both weapons at once.  He would take the blades out into the desert and practice with his swords with nobody else within earshot of him.  However, another twist of fate would change Edmund’s life.  During one of his practice sessions, he heard voices from the ice sheet that froze the northern ocean.  They were Thallanders, poachers there to hunt seals.  Seal hunting was declared illegal by the Thalland government more than 50 years before, and the North West Mounted Police had managed to capture most of the poachers.  But there were still some that eluded the police.  Edmund loved seals and hated poachers with all his heart.  The sight of these disgusting beings was more than Edmund could stand.  He approached the first poacher who had just pulled a seal from the water.  He didn’t notice at first, but the symbols on the blades were beginning to glow bright red.  Blades drawn, Edmund cut the poacher in half before he could club the frightened seal.  The second poacher tried to escape, but Edmund was faster.  He bore down upon his victim and slashed his head off, along with cutting his torso so much that his organs spilled all over the ice.  Only after the killing did he noticed the symbols glow a fiery red.  It was then that Edmund first felt the calling.  He felt his place was not Iqthallanik, but… another place.  With the calling and the murders, Edmund knew that he was to leave his parents and his life in Iqthallanik forever.  He wrote a quick note to assure his parents that he was of sound health and mind in his decision and started on the road south.

The journey was long and hard, but the calling led the way for Edmund.  He employed his blades to dispatch the highwaymen and vagabonds that sought to kill or rob him.  He would take the money and any items of use from those he killed and continued on his way.  He would hitchhike or walk during the day and seek adequate shelter at night.  His journey ended in Thalland City, where he was led to a rather decrepit building in industrial Thalland… the temporary headquarters of Jared Orkney.  Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Hector Sanchez, who recognized him for something, although the two had never met before.  What surprised Edmund is that he seemed to recognize Hector for something.  Hector introduced Edmund to Faya al-Azbakhan, and he realized it was to them the calling was.  Hector explained the artifacts of the Lesser Arcana, magical artifacts imbued with incredible powers.  The swords he carried were part of the Lesser Arcana.  As such, he called himself the Ace of Swords.

Edmund does not know where the path of the Arcana will lead him.  All he knows is that he must stay close to Faya and Hector, and in turn, serve Jared.

He has placed his faith in his newfound comrades… and the power of his blades.
