Brief History: Born in the one of the harshest environments Ruferus has to offer, Faya Al-Azbakhan is no stranger to death and destruction. Her parents were Kalbastan
freedom fighters, swearing their lives to the annihilation of Pakovia, an oppressive regime that sought to conquer the
southern countries for their own. Using Thalland-made Stinger missles,
the Kalbastanis avenged themselves upon their foes by
taking out the Pakovian Hind gunships
one by one. The Kalbastanis
were relentless and brutal and it was their devout faith to their home that
drove the Pakovians out of Kalbastan.
Unfortunately,
the Pakovian infantrymen were also quite adept and
their night raids killed many, including Faya’s
mother and father. The leader of the
raid, Captain Alexei Khrushtov found the two year old
Faya playing with a toy in her parents’ tent,
completely oblivious to what had become of her beloved mother and father. Khrushtov could not
bear to leave the child to die in the desert sands, so he snatched up the child
and brought her back to his camp. With
their innate hostility towards the Kalbastanis, Khrushtov’s superiors would have nothing to do with the
child, but had no compunction to allowing Khrushtov
himself to raise her. Khrushtov had no hate for Faya. His wife, Nadia, was unable to bear children
due to an infection of her uterus, so he saw Faya as
his own. After the failure of the
invasion, Alexei retired from the Pakovian armed forces
and lived with Nadia and Faya in Bresztik,
a city on the Pakovian/Kalbastani border.
Alexei
and Nadia were good parents to Faya, although she had
trouble fitting in at school. The other
children knew she was Kalbastani from the gem she
wore on her forehead, so they would constantly tease and make fun of her. She was a loner through most of school until
high school, where she finally found some Pakovians
more tolerant of her. She had some fun
with her looks, piercing numerous parts of her body and dying her hair purple.
At the
end of high school, Faya decided to visit her former
homeland. Kalbastan
had never fully recovered from the invasion; many of its people lived in
poverty and starvation. It depressed Faya, but she felt no malice towards her Pakovian foster parents.
On the way back across the border, she found a strange disc, half buried
in the sand. As she touched the edge, it
cut her fingers and Faya was reluctant to pull it out
of the sand. But she looked at it more
closely and discovered it was a chakram, and took it
home with her. But the blood from her
fingers caused it to glow… and with the glow came the calling. It beckoned her across the ocean to the
metropolis of
